A hidden café in Taipei, tucked into Lane 53

NOR Coffee is a small café hidden in Lane 53, a short lane off Chifeng Street in Taipei’s Datong District. It is not on a main road: it sits between Chifeng Street and the Zhongshan Linear Park, about 3 minutes from Shuanglian MRT Exit 1. Look for the “NOR you need a break” sign and a green-and-white striped awning.

Why is NOR Coffee hard to find?

Many of Taipei’s best spots hide off the main roads, and NOR is a textbook case. Lane 53 is a short, quiet lane: walk the busy streets around Zhongshan Station and you would never guess it is there. Step into it and the city noise drops away — which is exactly the point of the Low Battery Club, a cozy refuge to slow down and recharge.

How do you find NOR Coffee?

  1. Take the MRT Red Line to Shuanglian Station and leave by Exit 1.
  2. Walk south through the Zhongshan Linear Park for about 150 m.
  3. Turn right into Lane 53. Look for the “NOR you need a break” lightbox and the green-and-white striped awning at No. 7.

Coming from Zhongshan Station instead? Take Exit 5, walk north up Chifeng Street for about 350 m, then turn right into Lane 53 — about 6 minutes. More routes on the visit page.

What you’ll find inside

A small, cozy café with a wooden window counter, a lazy dog mascot called NOR, and a menu that leads with cream-top signatures — Peanut Butter Cream and Salted Caramel Sea Salt Cream. There is honest espresso, a BONSOY soy latte, Shizuoka matcha and PETIT SAM LIU canelés. Dogs are welcome, with a shaded leash post and water bowl out front and indoor dog parking.

Tips for hidden-café hunters

  • Come in the afternoon: NOR opens at 12:00 Monday to Thursday and 11:00 Friday to Sunday.
  • It is a small place — perfect for a slow coffee alone or with a friend, less so for a big group.
  • Pair it with a wander around Chifeng Street’s lanes and its remaining old hardware shops — see the Chifeng Street guide.
  • Share the spot kindly: it is a quiet lane with neighbours.
